Soul Fire

You have probably heard this quote before … “People don’t necessarily remember what you say but they do remember how you made them feel.”

I’m not sure if I also first came across the following words inscribed on the wall of my favourite barber shop or from my favourite uncle/pastor …

” Preach the gospel to everyone you meet and if necessary, use words…”

Wow!!!! Both these quotes are worth meditating on, I’d say!!!!

Aaaah, The Great Commission!!!

Matthew 28 vs 18-20

18. And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, “all authority has been given to me in Heaven and on Earth”.

19. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20. “Teaching them to observe all things that i have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen

This is a clear instruction from Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Our lives and all that encompasses our lives (family, friends, relationships, careers, businesses) should not be a separate walk from that which the gospel emphasises. Our focus on the things of this world over the price of a soul has unfortunately become the order of the day. Eternity is too long a time to spend in a place of torment for any soul.

D.L. Moody, an impactful evangelist from the 19th century said:

“Out of 100 men, 1 will read the Bible, the other 99 will read the Christian!”

I don’t know if there has ever been a time such as this where people have reached points of desperation and despair. It is also a time where there is distraction like never before. Even as citizens of The Kingdom, we are caught up in our vices and devices. We miss daily opportunities to introduce hurt, lost and seeking souls to the Saviour of the world who is knocking at their hearts and who is able to impart peace that surpasses all understanding.

Here’s my challenge of introspection to each and every one of us…

In a world where many are hopeless, a world choking in the grip of fear and a world crying out for a helping hand:

  • Is your light shining before men that our Father in Heaven is glorified?
  • Does your daily activity radiate “love the Lord your God and love your neighbour as yourself”?
  • With all that encompasses your day, is your sole purpose of harvesting souls a reality?
  • If the abundance of your heart could be read out loud today, would the gospel of love abound?

One act of love and kindness can save someone’s life today. Take the time to listen to someone today and really hear what their heart is saying. Remember, the Holy Spirit is our Helper and our Advocate – we don’t evangelise in our own strength.

 Preach!!!
